It wasn't the BEST movie I ever saw, but my friend and I keep leaning over and saying to each other, "I didn't know I'd like this this much!" It was cute, fun, and had us laughing. Now all we can think about is joining a scooter gang. If you are looking for deeper meaning in life pass on this, but if you need a smile and a little fun this is your ticket. Enjoy!

This is a film that was co-written, acted and directed by Tom Hanks. I love the guy, i think he is an amazing actor and a good person as well, but I think he tried to do too much and ended up with a movie that is a bit out of touch. I can understand why Tom Hanks wanted to make a film that is sweet and is different from the cynical films that we see in the theaters but the film does not connect to the audience at all and it feels odd and somehow unfinished. Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks have zero chemistry on screen, it is almost unsettling to watch them together. Overall, I did not like this movie and i do not recommend seeing it in the theaters.

Julia Roberts annoyed me in this movie. She played me-the-movie-star-forced-into-teaching. Her character made no sense and had no depth, just a lot of sass. It was never made clear why Tom Hanks fell for her...one long drunken kiss from a nasty professor? I appreciated that Hanks was trying to make a wholesome movie, but it's got to be a good movie, too. In a way, he defeats his purpose, because we're left feeling that wholesome is light-weight and that drama and good stories need all that Hollywood crap we're so sick of. I'll take "Gran Torino" by Clint Eastwood any day. Now that was wholesome, and had every element of great filmmaking.

Good, clean, funny movie. So rare these days. Great family movie.

Simple plot, yet a beautiful movie, full of candid situations showing powerful wisdom, however just for those few who can still see through the insanity plague everywhere. The movie shows how gracefully overcome very frustrating situations that happens in eveyones's lives. To re-start from the begining at an age that normally people consider themselves "done", hopeless! And Julia Roberts, yes! Tom Hanks high quality stuff, yes, as usual. It's one of those films that makes you feel good about yourself and about the future of the Earth when you walk out of the theater. Thank you Tom, I needed that. Excellent film!

If you like a fifties type light weight go no where movie, you will still be disappointed with Larry Crowne. I gave it two stars only because I like Tom Hanks, but he certainly doesn't shine in this movie he helped write, direct and produce as well as show up in. The only scenes with any content are in the trailer. The movie could have developed the idea about Larry being a good employee at UMart who is fired, or developed the idea of the struggle he has in college, or any number of points in the movie. We barely get an idea that Julia Roberts' marriage is in trouble. Her husband played by Brian Cranston from Breaking Bad does the best acting in the movie, but he is in it all too briefly.
Instead, we get brief glimpses of each of these ideas without development. Larry is saved very implausibly by a Vespa riding gang of college students. They even have the "gang" snap their fingers in a West Side story way at one point. Larry is given an A in speech class after his final exam of making a speech off the top of his head. Sadly, Tom Hanks just didn't try very hard to prove he is a likeable guy worthy of winning the professor over.
The audience laughed in a few places. Perhaps, they hadn't seen the trailer. Tune into TCM for a free 1950 romance and save your money.

Larry Crowne is one of those films that, under other circ**stances, might actually not be too bad. It's a simple story about a really nice guy who loses his job because he's not college educated, so he goes back to school, and his niceness touches everyone around him. It's fluff no matter what, but this film's main problem is its writer/director/star, Tom Hanks.

Hanks is one of my favorite actors, and his That Thing You Do is a pretty good, if inconsequential movie. He keeps things light here for his second directorial effort, but it's too light. The main character has hardships, but never seems to suffer from them. There's no drama, because the main character never really seems fazed by any of the problems going on around him.

This film also suffers from its stars' visibility. At this point, Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts are too well know, in my opinion, to play a guy that works at a big-box store and a community college teacher, respectively. I just couldn't believe either of them, and they're both excellent actors. Lesser known actors might have made the film more believable, but not two of the biggest movie stars on the planet.

This is a film directed by Tom Hanks and anything that he touches becomes gold or at least silver in this case. The film is kind of old-fashioned without explicit sex or violence and I really enjoyed it. It is kind of a happy film with not many sad or emotionally deep moments and I like that for a change. The film is sentimental and all of the performances are likable. The film made me feel optimistic and kind of happy. Julia Roberts and Tom hanks do not have an amazing chemistry but they are both great actors and it is still very enjoyable to watch them perform. Overall, I had a good time watching this happy-go lucky film.

This is a drama/comedy that is directed by Toma Hanks and stars Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts and Sarah Mahoney. Unfortunately the film was not good and it is hard for me to say that because I adore Tom Hanks, I mean who doesn’t. The film had no substance and Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts have no chemistry, it is weird to say that because they are both amazing actors, but they did not work well together in this film. Tom Hanks directed, produced and acted in this film and I think he overworked himself. Robert’s character is awfully boring and the more you learn about her the more boring she becomes. Overall, the film did not do it for me and i do not recommend seeing it in the theaters.
