This film was terrible and I do not recommend seeing it in the theaters. I took my boyfriend to see this film with me even though he really did not want to but I figured that the film has some action and he can overlook the romantic side of it. Well, a joke is on me because I found this film to be incredibly stupid and annoying and I wish I did not waste my money on it. The cast was good but it was kind of sad to see them waste their talent on this film and I hope that Witherspoon will not make that mistake again. The film was incredibly unrealistic and not even a tiny bit romantic unless you think trying to kill each other over a girl is romantic.
This Means War is, for lack of a better word, creepy. Only in Hollywood can a "romantic comedy" involve spying on someone you're trying to woo. Maybe it would work for a drama where the filmmakers are examining privacy in our current times of Facebook and cell phone tracking, but this movie is directed by a guy named McG, so here, you're going to get stale "laughs" and overblown action. Chris Pine and Tom Hardy (two pretty good actors completely wasted here) play best friends and CIA agents named Tuck and FDR (again, only in the movies). Tuck is the nice guy, FDR the Lothario. They both end up dating the same girl, and decide they're going to be gentlemen and see who the best man is. Of course, if that happened, there wouldn't be a movie, so these CIA agents use everything at their disposal to get the girl. Hence, the creep factor. There's a lot of spying and wiretapping that's supposed to be funny, but I guess you have to find being a stalker funny, because I didn't get it. It's too bad, because you've got three pretty good actors in Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine and Tom Hardy. Here, there's just no chemistry between any of them, so the romantic part doesn't even work. And in a romantic comedy where there's no sparks or laughs, you're left with nothing.
I am not going to lie, I actually kind of liked this film and if you are looking for a romantic comedy that has pretty good action scenes then I suggest you see this film. Yes, the film is not smart it is actually pretty dumb but romantic comedies are usually not the smartest films out there anyway I thought the film was acted very well and the director knew what he was doing when he cast Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine and Tom Hardy. The film is fast paced and fun to watch and even though the situations are pretty ridiculous and unrealistic I was entertained. The stars in this film have a lot of charm and I think they pretty much save this film.
I did not like this film and I do not recommend seeing it in the theaters. Even though, I like all the actors involved in this project and I think they did a decent job with their roles I also think that they all can do much better than this movie and their talent was wasted on it. The jokes in the film are terrible and absolutely not funny, the film is executed poorly and the overall concept is absolutely ridiculous and insulting. I do not have high standards for judging romantic comedies and this film fell below my already low standards which is kind of sad and angering in the same time. Overall, this film is a mess and I suggest you see something else.
This is an romantic comedy about two CIA agents who discover that they are dating the same woman, the film is directed by McG and stars Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine and Tom Hardy. This was a terrible film and I definitely do not recommend seeing it in the theaters because it will be a waste of your time and your money. I do not know why this film falls under romantic comedy genre because there is absolutely nothing romantic or funny about it, the film is mean spirited and dumb. I feel bad for the actors in this film, I mean they did a good job with their roles but I feel bad that they had to be in this film at all, it must be pretty embarrassing. The film was also way too longs and I was dying to leave after first hour of it, it was almost like torture. Overall, I suggest you find a better romantic comedy than this one.
